eSIMs work for millions of people every day. If you’re new to using them, or have recently set up an eSIM on your Android device, you’ll definitely want to know it’s activated and working correctly.

Here are some steps you can use to check that your eSIM is activated on your Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel or other Android device, ensuring you can use it immediately. If you’re on an iPhone, scroll down for the iOS steps - the process differs slightly but is just as quick to check.

Step 1: Log in to your Breeze account

Check your order history in your Breeze account to see whether you have used any data on your eSIM. If so, your eSIM was successfully activated. We’ve also created a helpful guide if you need support on how to activate it. A zero-data-used balance doesn’t always mean the eSIM is inactive - it may not have been used yet; proceed to Steps 2 and 3 to confirm.

Step 2: Test your Android device’s connection

Is your Android connection working? Check that your device isn’t in flight mode and that you aren’t somewhere with no signal. To confirm your eSIM is activated, try accessing the internet to ensure data services are working correctly. You should also see your carrier’s name appear in the status bar at the top of your screen - if it shows “No Service” or remains blank, the eSIM has not yet connected to the network.

Step 3: Check your Android OS settings

Open the Settings app to check whether your eSIM is activated on your Android device. It contains the necessary information about your cellular plans and network connections.

Once in the Settings app, scroll down and tap on “Network & Internet” or “Connections” (depending on the device manufacturer) and go to “SIM Card Manager” or “Mobile Network”. This section shows details about your mobile connections, including both physical SIMs and eSIMs. Find the eSIM you want to check (it may be listed as an eSIM or a Digital SIM). If it isn’t there, you haven’t installed it. You can also verify your device recognises the eSIM chip by dialling *#06# - if an EID (Embedded Identity Document) number appears alongside your IMEI, the hardware is ready.

To check if your eSIM is activated, look for the status indicator next to your eSIM plan. If the eSIM is active, it will typically show as “Active” or “Connected” or display signal bars, indicating that it’s connected to the network and ready to use. On Samsung Galaxy devices, the label may read “Enabled” rather than “Active”; on Google Pixel, it typically shows “Connected” alongside the carrier name. If the eSIM appears in the list but shows “Disabled,” tap it and select “Enable” to activate it manually.

How to check if eSIM is activated on iPhone (iOS)

On an iPhone, checking your eSIM activation status takes less than a minute - here’s exactly where to look in iOS Settings.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap Cellular (or Mobile Data in some regions).
  2. Tap the eSIM line you want to check. It will be listed under your line label - for example, “Primary,” “Travel,” or a name you assigned during setup.
  3. Look for the status shown beneath the line label. An activated eSIM will display Active next to the carrier name. If it shows Off or no carrier name, the profile hasn’t been enabled yet.
  4. To turn it on, tap Turn On This Line and confirm. Your carrier name should appear in the status bar within a few seconds.

On iOS 16 and iOS 17, Apple also shows the eSIM’s assigned number on this screen, which is a useful secondary confirmation that the profile downloaded correctly from your carrier. If the line is present but shows no carrier name, the eSIM profile may not have finished provisioning - wait a minute and restart your iPhone to prompt it to connect.

Troubleshooting Tips

Try a few more steps to ensure your eSIM activates successfully on Android.

  • Restart your device. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve any activation issues
  • Install Android OS updates. Keep your device updated so that all its functionality works. If an OS update is available, you’ll see a prompt to install it
  • Check that your QR code hasn’t already been scanned; eSIM profiles are single-use. If you’ve scanned the QR code on a previous device, contact Breeze support to request a new profile.
  • Contact your eSIM provider, SIMon, the Breeze help-bot is on-hand 24/7 to help guide you, alternatively the Breeze help section has extensive FAQs and step-by-step instructions for iPhone users. Or you can submit a request to our Support team
